A view of Japan coastline, Jogasaki, Izu

Japan coastline, Jogasaki
Japan coastline

About 100 km south-west of Tokyo lies the Izu Peninsula, it is an area popular for its hot springs, beautiful coastlines, beaches, mild climate and scenic mountainous interior. Characterized by its unique terrain and scenery in a dynamic natural atmosphere, this is a place where you can ease your mind in the hot bath while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Among the scenic Izu Peninsula, Jogasaki is one of the top destination to visit. It offers an attractive hiking trail that follows the coast for almost ten kilometers, with beautiful views of jagged cliffs and rock formations that hug the coast. On a good day, visitors are also treated with a view of Izu Oshima, the largest of the Izu Islands, while on a dark cloudy day, the waves will also form an impressive sight splashing onto the rocky cliff.

Travelling to Jogasaki by car itself is a visual treat, the highway along the coastline is absolutely stunning, the only regret being we are not able to stop and take in its beauty. Along the beach front you can catch glimpse of surfers suiting up getting ready to take on the mighty wave during summer, cars lining up and people setting up BBQ alongside it; if only time permit, we would also love to be part of the party.

Parking was easy for us upon reaching Jogasaki, the car park is spacious enough and not especially crowded. The car park is about 3 minutes from the cliff, and the iconic Kadowakizaki Suspension Bridge. It was a cloudy day during our trip, but we were not disappointed at all, the wind brought up huge waves that came crashing onto to cliff, it was a spectacular sight.

While we did not cover the entire length of Jogasaki coastline (almost 10 km), just the sight of area around the suspension bridge and light house is worthy of our morning drive to the place, and if only we are do not have other destination planned out for the day, I am sure we will be spending the rest of the day exploring this wonderful place.
